Basically, here's what you need to know about using the Glock 19 as your favorite EDC carry gun.
For anyone unfamiliar, the Glock 19 is a polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol. Glock lists it on its website as a 9mm compact, although most firearms enthusiasts agree that it is somewhere between a subcompact like the Glock 26 and a full size Glock 17. The differences between different generations of the same pistol are: Subtle. The overall length of the G3 version is 7.36 inches. The Gen4 and Gen5 models are 7.28 inches. All three rifles are 4.02 inches long and chamber standard 15 rounds, unless you live in a country with mags.
No matter which generation you choose, you're looking at about 24 ounces empty and 30 ounces with a full mag, which makes these guns pretty heavy when you're talking concealed carry weapons. We will talk about this weight and how to lose it later.
In terms of other differences, Glock added front serrations and a slightly phased slide forend on the Gen5 models. Interestingly, the Gen5s are slightly wider than the Gen3 and 4 at 1.34 inches. Another major difference is that the Gen3 and 4 have finger grooves on the grip, while the Gen5 does not. Most of the rifle's internals are the same for generations. There are some differences in some of the inner workings, but unless you're a real stickler, you probably won't notice.

Ultimately, we cannot recommend a specific generation of this Glock pistol for CCW. We recommend going to a local gun store and handling them in person to see how one feels in your hands. It's different for every shooter. I should note that all the tests I detail involve the stock Gen4 model. I know I can add things like an aftermarket trigger or recoil spring to improve performance. However, I am not picky about these things. Sure, the trigger pull is a bit mushy, but I got used to it the more I used it. Some say you need to put a few thousand rounds into a new round to break properly. Overall, I found the G19 to be perfect for my needs right out of the box.
As mentioned earlier, the Glock 19 is about 30 ounces fully loaded. A strong gun belt is essential when carrying the G19, otherwise it sags and is very uncomfortable. We highly recommend purchasing a specially designed gun belt with reinforced rings and loops. If you're going to use it for everyday wear, you want it to be comfortable. Keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for these days, and you probably won't have a great experience by skimping on something as simple as a belt.
